The Chamber of Crafts at Leipzig – a statutory corporation – serves about 11,700 membership companies with about 90,000 employees in the directorate belonging to the Leipzig region. We are overseeing the parts of the crafts trade’s self-administration, the crafts trade’s public representation and we are providing a range of services especially for the crafts trade. The chamber of crafts also takes care of the collective and joint representation of the concerns of all the craftspeople in politics and public.
The Chamber also assists entrepreneurs, employees and trainees as well as their parents with words and deeds. In our Education and Technology Centre in Borsdorf and in the “House of the crafts trades” (Haus des Handwerks) we are offering a wide range of classes and seminars.
Against this background the ECOA+ Project enables the Chamber to enhance the recognition of the specific target group - the craftsmen’s spouses - within the context of an international project. To achieve this, the Chamber of crafts at Leipzig employs all the activities to implement the designated work-packages.
To realise the project targets, the Chamber of crafts is working together (in an indirect partnership) with the group of the Association of Women in the Crafts Trade (UFH- Unternehmerfrauen im Handwerk e.V.). This assures the transfer of their experiences with Lobbying and PR which was defined as an important project target. It also enables a constructive evaluation of the realised work-packages.
Since 1998 there exists in country-region a specific course for Women in the crafts trade which finishes with a certificate of attendance. In close cooperation with the UFH further offers have now been designed not only specifically targeted at women but generally for contributing family members.
For this purpose the qualification „Business administrator for commercial matters with an additional training in Business English” „Kaufmännischer Fachwirt mit Zusatzausbildung Business English“ was introduced besides further ECOA-Modules (e.g. Lobbying). It is targeted at prospective participants with informally gained commercial competences. While this qualification is nationally recognized, it is also possible to obtain an international recognition within the frame of the ECOA-project.
